What happened to the ability to recolour Animal Friends?

Back before 2.21, we could not only get Animal Friends, but colour them as we wished, but then we were stuck with either white or sepia Animal Friends. Then we had to go through a long process to recolour said Animal Friends. I tried this with a fairy on my account that didn't already have an Animal Friend, but I still can't recolour her butterfly even with the process. Am I missing something?
